A week ago in front of the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio, 37 teams of monohull and multihull entries with sailors from around the world started a 605 nautical mile non-stop race through the Aegean archipelago, challenged by winds of all extremes, tricky tactics and navigation and tough competition in the inaugural edition of the AEGEAN 600. The event proved to be an inspiration for offshore sailors everywhere, as the images from the social networking sites of the competitors travelled around the world advertising the beauties of Greece. Unfortunately, due to the recent situation, the Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) and the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) have decided to postpone to future years the 2021 ORC Double Handed European Championship originally scheduled on 2-10 July 2021....

On July 4th, 2021, the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) in Greece will organize a new 600 nautical mile offshore yacht race. This is a race designed by sailors for sailors in which the sporting challenge will meet the legendary beauty of the Aegean islands. It is the first time the one sea favored by poets, painters and philosophers through the ages, will host such a great offshore sailing event that has both athletic and environmental symbolism, as the message the contestants will convey is "Let’s Save Our Seas". With the support of the environmental organization HELMEPA, HORC aims to organize an event with the smallest possible ecological footprint. Therefore, actions will be taken to educate and inform the entries about marine pollution before the start of the race. The Offshore Racing Congress (ORC) awarded the 2021 ORC Double Handed European Championship to the Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC). This is the first European Double Handed Championship to be organized by ORC. Offshore Double Handed events have been proposed by World Sailing to be included as a mixed two-person offshore keelboat event in the Olympic program for Paris 2024. The event will be held from 4-10 July 2021, alongside the international sailing race "AEGEAN 600" (non-stop 600 mile race) organized by HORC on the same dates and the conduct of which for 2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A key role in the selection of HORC has been its long history in holding world championships and the excellent preparation and presentation.
